The main reason services do not generate revenue is because they fail to demonstrate value to the sales team and ultimately the
customer.

There are 4 root issues that strip value from your services:

  1. They are poorly defined
  2. They are not packaged correctly
  3. You lack metrics to measure the performance and proven value
  4. Your team does not have the tools they need to sell effectively

Until you define the value, it’s free.

You know your company’s services have great value to your customers.
You also know it takes valuable resources to implement the services which equates
to lost revenue as long as you continue to give your services away. Taking the
time to define the exact value your services bring to your customers is the
only way to empower your team to sell them.

If your services can benefit everyone, no one will buy them.

Sounds like a paradox. The fact is, people don’t buy things because
they work for everyone, they buy them because they work specifically for
them. It is not enough to define your services; they must be packaged and specifically
target each of your economic buyers.

Prove it!

Knowing your services bring value to your customers and proving it are two
very different things. Clearly defined metrics are the only way to make value
as tangible as a rock. If you are selling subscription services you know exactly
what I’m talking about. If your customer doesn’t understand exactly
how they have benefited from your annual services, getting 4th quarter renewals
will be the burden of your sales team.

They sell what they know

The confidence of your sales team comes from their knowledge of your products
and services. Provide your team with a sales tool that not only defines each
service, but describes the economic buyer, what value the services has to them
and how to handle objections. Produce this invaluable tool and your sales force
will never leave home without it.
