Website Strategy and Design

Can your company’s website survive a "drive-by"?
I’m not talking about a shooting. First, let’s imagine you are in your car driving by a yard sale. The presentation and magnitude of the items, and how they are displayed, catches your attention to the point where you decide to pull over and take a look. At second glance you see the quality of the items and
your are encouraged to look further. To your amazement and delight, the yard sale items are categorized and organized in logical sections. You think "wow" as your hand reaches for your wallet to see how much you have
to spend.
Keep your visitor’s finger away from the "back" button.
When a visitor or customer hits your company’s website, does the design and professional presentation encourage them to dig deeper? At second glance, can they determine what it is that your company does? If you have grabbed their interest, can they find what they need?
Websites fail to attract and convert customers for 3 reasons:
- Poor or unprofessional visual presentation
- Layout and organization is confusing or distracting
- They cannot find what they need.
Why not just hire a graphic designer?
Great websites are created by Information Designers NOT
graphic designers.
Most graphic designers are focused on the visual presentation of your website and are not well versed in the structure and organization of information. You may end up with a great looking website, but will the design communicate your message to visitors?
Not all graphic designers understand web-based design. Certain designs, although elegant and attractive, are difficult to translate into functional website graphics and code. This will drive your website developers nuts. The design may also cause your visitors to leave because your website takes forever to load.
